Review by Rick Eaglestone

Bristol's Blasfeme return with sharpened blades and a deep rooted ferocity for their second album Black Legion

The album begins with a classic heavy metal feel as the the opening to Purified by the High Flames of Hell sways longingly before erupting into a cascade of evisceration which is then paired with the icy soundscapes of Wolves of Karpathia.

Cachtiche 1611 contains some neat neo classical elements with weaving tempo changes throughout before Blasfeme then conjure up some infernal elements from occult masterpiece The Devil Rides Out on their first single release Ritualistic Exsanguination which also has a great accompanying video - probably no surprise at all that this is my highlight track

Czernobog is barrage of dominant basslines and blistering drum patterns before the grandeur of the albums title track Black Legion which not only rules with an iron fist but captures the releases overall hellish aesthetic perfectly.

The album then concludes in stark contrast with the melodic short instrumental piece Bound by the Blood Upon our Swords which gives a level of atmospheric finality.

Black Legion will be released via Wulfhere Productions
