Spain's summoner of serene tinged savagery Calderum return with their lates EP Desecration of the Bastille
Opening proceedings the atmospheric building introduction The Awakening is rich in its medieval soundscapes before title track Desecration of the Bastille interweaves Raw Black Metal with subtle splashes of Dungeon Synth. Among this is also the inclusion of atmospherics which only add to the overall grander soundscape.
There is short interlude where Chants of Penitence weaves into the ferocity of Pagan Fires which is easily the EP's most intense offering, there are melodic and choral elements in places too which really do a great job in adding to the overall aesthetic
Full of razor sharp vocals and blistering drum patterns is Thy Power of Our Ancestors and the inclusions of some dungeon synth really provides that welcome nostalgic vibe with the EP concluding with closing track Under the Cold of thy Shadows providing the final lingering melancholic sway with its acoustic presentation and clean vocals which aren't out of context with the overall aesthetic of the release
Desecration of the Bastille is out this Friday
