Review by Rick Eaglestone
Beneath the howling moon and misery that surrounds October Bristol's Parusight now add their debut Deathly Pale into the ever lurking landscape.
The album begins cascaded with ominous tones with short introduction piece A Clash of Stars which then flows into a slow & brooding droplet of despair on A Withering Rose, it is also interlaced with razor sharp fury and provides the album first real showcase.
Title Track Deathly Pale contains a cocktail of blistering elements which even though is out and out raw DSBM there are subtle inclusions that elevate this into a highlight track, this is complimented nicely with the interlacing of twisting paces on Lost in a Shadow.
Love is the albums longest offering and demonstrates a real understanding of balance through its delivery which is all evoking with its narrative style, once again the musical elements gather round the vocals like a coven which also contains my favourite section of the album in the latter section.
There is one final unholy trinity left which begins with cold, stark soundscapes of Nekronumb which spiral into the majestic dungeon synth laden instrumental Mourning Sky before finally Malignant provides some woeful atmospherics to put to rest what has a been a well constructed debut that belongs in any black metal collection.
