Ok, I acknowledge that Mondays can be hard so if you've come looking for a prog-jazz infused cuddle then unfortunately that something that is going to be in very, very short supply but if you are looking for something a bit more scathing well then strap in a Leicester Feral State may have just thing for you and if you were looking for violent velocity and well the type of thing that Leatherface could pleasure himself to, then maybe, just maybe we have some of interest with the collection of tracks that make up II
From the moment opener "Concrete" crashes through
your speakers with its grinding D-beat assault, it's abundantly clear that Joe,
Marcus, Christian & Fran have been listening to their own advice about keeping
your god and suffering sent. The production, captures every spit of venom and crash of cymbal with crystalline
brutality. This isn't the muddy hardcore of old – this is precision-engineered
violence.
The Leicester collective have always worn their influences
proudly on their battle-scarred sleeves, but "II" sees them pushing
further into thrash territory without losing an ounce of their punk fury.
"Constant Terror" exemplifies this evolution perfectly and notably the drums from Marcus complimented with Frans' bass crawls inside the ear canal like a blood ridden maggot! I can't wait to experience in a live setting - Checks calendar - 12 days and counting
"Survival Game" closes the main album on a note of pure
spite, a final middle finger to a world that seems increasingly determined to
crush the spirit of anyone born without privilege. The song's final breakdown
is absolutely crushing, with Christian's guitar tone achieving that perfect
sweet spot between chainsaw and concrete mixer. As Joe's final scream fades
into feedback, you're left with the distinct impression that you've just
witnessed something genuinely dangerous.
Feral State remain resolutely real. "II" is the
sound of genuine discontent given voice through three-chord fury and righteous
indignation.
The vermin have inherited the earth, and they're making one
hell of a racket about it.
Standout Tracks: "Live In Fear," "Scab," "Mold Ridden"
An adrenaline infused speedball of rage
