French black metal merchants Malhkebre return with a vengeance on their latest offering, "To Those Who Forged Us. This two track EP serves as both a prelude to their forthcoming full-length and a tribute to the malevolent forces that shaped their blackened vision.
From the moment this ritualistic beast awakens, it's clear that MALHKEBRE have evolved their sound into something more suffocating and ceremonial than their previous incarnations. Where their earlier works relied heavily on traditional black metal fury, "To Those Who Forged Us" presents a band embracing their darker impulses with newfound maturity and calculated malice.
The vocals have taken on a more declamatory quality, channelling the spirit of ancient rites and forbidden ceremonies with the rhythm section providing a foundation that's both thunderous and serpentine.
The EP's number of tracks leaving the listener wanting more rather than overstaying its welcome. At just the right length, it serves its purpose as both a standalone statement and an appetizer for what's promised to come later on - Malhkebre haven't abandoned their roots so much as they've allowed them to mature and darken.
The influences and declaration of their continued relevance in the French black metal scene is fully apparent throughout
Salut Satan!
